10-JAN-03 - Back on hf and movin' on!

The Holidays and the new year have been filled with a whole lot of strange and unusual "stuff". Peter did get back on the road the day after Thanksgiving and was en route to Orlando. Between Atlanta and the Florida line he had stopped for fuel and a rest. When he was leaving the truck stop the trailer uncoupled from the tractor. Fortunately he was going very slow and the trailer landed and stayed up on its "feet" (used to hold the trailer when there is no tractor under it. (This was especially aggravating since Peter had complained about the condition of the fifth wheel that North American had put on the tractor.) It took 6 days to get a replacement fifth wheel installed and Peter lost a weeks work. (Especially tough when you consider that the lease payments were still required by North American.

After finally getting back on the road Peter found himself in California and while there had the great fortune to meet up with WF6H - Ken in San Diego. Ken and Beverly were very gracious hosts to Peter and even helped him get back on hf. Peter bought an IC-706 MK II G and Ken loaned him a "Hamstick" 30m antenna and a KAM+.  Ken went additional "extra miles" by doing most of the installation. As a result, W7LUS is "on the air again!". Ken also provided several ferrites so that Peter could make the installation quieter.

Since then Peter has ordered a High Sierra antenna and will pick it up at "the Fort". The new antenna will have to be mounted on the fiberglass hood, on the driver's side (to reduce interference with road side trees and the like).

Peter  is currently on the way to Michigan, than to Nashville and Atlanta and then to Greenville, SC. That's pretty close to home and we hope he can stop by to get some things.
