10-OCT-02 - Peter has returned to "Over the Road" driving for North American Van Lines.
After three years mostly living aboard Norrona, Peter has decided to return to the road. He contacted NAVL and was supposed to attend an orientation course at Fort Wayne, IN (the "Fort") the last week of October. We were very leisurely preparing for an orderly return to driving. Friday (27-SEP-02) at 1 PM Peter received a call from NAVL asking if he could possibly be at the "Fort" Monday to begin orientation and go into the Logistics (Exhibits and Shows) group and be on the road the next week. The caller wanted a response by 3 PM. After some quick calls and planning, Peter agreed to be there Monday Morning. The next 8 hours included a quick trip to Asheville, NC to get a rental car that could be dropped off at Fort Wayne Airport. Peter returned to W4ERL's place, where he had been visiting, and left for Fort Wayne before dawn. He arrived in Fort Wayne Saturday afternoon and replaced the one-way rental with a more affordable local rental.
Monday Morning he began a 5 day orientation and started the process of leasing a truck. The lease-hold details are underway, but not yet "set in concrete". At present (probably for 3 weeks) he is in a rental rig (New Freightliner). The rental is OK, but without all the amenities that he can add to the leased rig (TV, Cooler, Amateur radio, etc.).
